our population is more than 10 times what it was just a few short tenths of a second ago. the richest 225 humans on earth have more wealth than the poorest 2.5 billion people combined, and the richest 20% of humans on earth account for 86% of consumption and on average make over $25,000 a year. meanwhile, 1.2 billion people make less than $1/day and over half the world makes less than $2/day. humans produce more than enough food to feed everyone in the world, but at least 800 million people are starving.....

Tuesday

Que tu m'aimais encore, me l'a t'on vraiment dit...

Saturday

The photo is a long exposure of a transvestite prostitute in the tenderloin of SF-who flashed me "hers" while I was taking the picture.
I didn't know she flashed me until I developed the picture- (I close my eyes when I take long exposures to hold the camera as still as possible).
When I finished taking the picture-she was literally right next to me...so I assumed I had a picture of the wall.

this photo will be at the "i'll show you mine"....night hawk LA event in silverlake Aug. 29th.

Thursday

i've never seen a full rainbow before. this is just outside my mom's condo in Wisconsin ...today...

Saturday

so i have been reading this book on Sophie Calle all summer--complete with all the random and crazy projects she created...

one that interested me the most for some reason was a letter by author Paul Auster addressed to Sophie Calle-called, "Personal instructions for SC on how to improve life in New York City"...which include the directive-"cultivate a spot."
Sophie calle chose a phone booth to create an installation....painting the outside of it-adding flowers...magazines...a chair to sit on....

i liked the idea of the project-so i chose a space in culver city...
i told a friend and she was interested...we decided to meet at 6 am...(thinking it would be dark out)

it didn't take long for the space to be cleared out...inviting me to put something new...

the last installation i did was a string of photo cards taken by hellen van meene. the work was cleared off the space before i had a chance to go back and take a picture. i'm not sure i am going to continue this project-although i just got a bunch of pumpkin lights at a garage sale today--

i got a 10-22mm lens last year and haven't shot much with it. still trying to get comfortable with the distortion. the wide angle is pretty amazing though-fitting so much into an image.....

Friday

not to be rich,
not to be famous,
not to be mighty,
not even to be happy,
but to be civilized-
that was the dream of his life.
